Ecomuseum of the region and the Walser culture
The ecomuseum of Valsesia - the Great Walser Route is a museum centre focused on the culture of the Walser people who, in the Middle Ages, defied the mountain by colonising the Valsesia and making the area, which had never before seen the permanent presence of Man, liveable. Highly skilled tillers and deforesters, the Walsers were able to withstand the harsh living conditions at the high altitudes and, through their works, they have left indelible marks on the region through paths, terraces, irrigation canals, living settlements, and which today are at the centre of the Ecomuseum's aim to promote this particular form of culture tied to Man and the mountain region.
